Lucky 7

It’s a theme, it’s a meme, it’s a tag, it’s a gag!

Lucky 7 Meme

My lucky number is 13

Kickass young writer McKenzie Barham has tagged me in the Lucky Sevens blog contest/game. I feel honored that she would remember me after having crushed so many of my entries in flash fiction contests this year.  Alas, I can’t win them all–I’ve run out of bribe money. Check out her blog, stop in and say hi. Have no doubt, if she decides on a career in novel writing, you’ll be hearing her name in the future.

Here’s how it works:

1.  Go to page 7 or 77 in your current manuscript.
2.  Go to line 7.
3.  Copy down the next seven lines/sentences as they are – no cheating.
4.  Tag seven other authors.

Sounds simple enough, right?
One problem…I write using Scrivener so I don’t HAVE page numbers or line numbers.  It’s a stream of text, separated by logical divisions, with no restrictive formatting.  I don’t get page numbers until I compile the manuscript.  So I can fudge a little..mwuahahaha….
What? No cheating?  Fine…
Since I have two manuscripts in progress, I’ll do one snippet of each:

Page 77, Line 7 of TOMAHAWK:

“Next message…”

My hands shook with fear. I didn’t want to hear any more. I wanted to turn off the phone and not know, just for a little while.  The phone beeped and I closed my eyes.

“Jack!  Jack!” My Mom’s voice was screaming in panic over the tiny phone speaker. “I love you…please God, protect my baby…No! Help us…”

TOMAHAWK is a 90K word YA Horror, currently out to query in hopes of getting a mainstream publisher.

Page 7, Line 7 of DRAGONS DREAM:

The rabbit twisted around and took off into the concrete pipe. Natalie squealed in delight and chased after the animal, past the bushes into the gloom.  It was a moment of sudden and instant joy that she would remember forever.

She followed the rabbit through the pipe and down into the crevice, only to lose it in the cave.  The white bunny vanished without a trace, into the pitch darkness of the cave.  She didn’t care.  She had found something far more intriguing than a wild rabbit.

DRAGONS DREAM is a 110K word Horror/Thriller, currently in final content edits.  Once those are complete, I’ll be launching a kickstarter project to raise funds for a self-publishing effort.

Well, I can confirm that this selection is quite random.  I hope you enjoy the snippets, and maybe read additional excerpts from both novels (in progress) here: TOMAHAWK , DRAGONS DREAM
