#unZombieTales Flash Fiction Contest
Welcome to my very first flash fiction contest, #unZombieTales sponsored by BigFishGames.com!
Most of you know me from my flash fiction entries around the web-o-sphere. I delight in the art form of short tales that give you a tiny bit of glee, horror, humor, love, or misery in a bite-sized chunk. Since we’re talking about bite-sized chunks, let’s get on with the contest.
#unZombieTales is a showcase of your creative take on a common horror staple: ZOMBIES. Most authors in the business will agree that zombie stories aren’t really about the faceless hordes. They’re about heroes, despair, fresh starts, fathers, children, love, relationships…pretty much anything that makes a good story. Our brain eaters are simply a convenient foil to strip away the niceties of society and get down to the nitty gritty. Now take the lovable creatures we all love and create your own unique spin in 250 words or less. Unlikely heroes, unlikely scenarios, unlikely settings, unlikely causes, unZombie the story your way. Heck, I’ll even accept faerie and werewolf tales.
I’ll be your esteemed judge for this inaugural run. I’m looking for one of two things in a winning flash fiction story. Either, a complete tale in 250 words, or a character, scenario, or scene that is so compelling that you can’t help but want MORE.
One winner and two honorable mention entries will win bragging rights, free publicity, and a 3-pack of Zombie games (see below) from our gracious sponsor BigFishGames.com.
Two additional entries will be chosen at random from the pool of points participants in the Rafflecopter.com giveaway. Those random entries will win a 3-pack of games as well. Points are earned by posting an entry (10 points), retweeting the contest (1 point), or following BigFishGames.com or yours truly on Twitter and Facebook (1 point apiece).
250 words maximum. Enter as a comment below this post. All comments are held for moderation (Thanks Spammers!), so don’t freak out if your entry doesn’t appear right away. Please include your twitter handle and word count below your entry. Contest runs from Friday, July 27th to midnight on Friday, August 3rd. One full week to be brilliant. No excuses!
You must use ONE of these classic lines from Night of the Living Dead somewhere in your tale. Author’s choice on which one and where.
“They’re coming for you, Barbara.”
“They know we’re in here now.”
“We may not enjoy living together, but dying together isn’t going to solve anything.”
“This is no Sunday school picnic!”
