Sunshine Blog Award
The awesomely awesome Siobhan Muir has nominated me as one of her picks in her Sunshine Blog award post. Siobhan is one of those rare people who is not only an extremely talented writer, but pretty fucking cool too boot. Check out her blog and go buy one of her racy books. You won’t be sorry.
The nomination comes at a good time for me. I’ve been really struggling to commit 100% to getting my projects completed and have been feeling really depressed about it. Writers know that life happens and we can’t be writing or editing or reading or socializing with other writers all the time–though we wish we could. This gnawing feeling that you should type just 100 more words, or proof one more page, or submit one more query really tears at me. And then there are the days when I do absolutely jack-shit, and feel miserable about myself. I think it’s primarily because I’m coming to this game later in life and feel the ticking of the clock. <cue melodramatic music>
Why yes, I did just turn 40! How did you guess?
Alright, enough of my emotional bullshit. On with the sunshine!
The objective is fairly simple, I’m to list ten surprising facts about myself and then nominate ten authors that I think deserve a brighter spotlight.
#1: I’m a Doctor, but not THAT kind of Doctor.
#2: I am the proud progenitor of four minions, three boys and one “Destroyer of Worlds”.
#3: Tomahawk throwing is not that difficult for me.
#4: I couldn’t drive a stick-shift until this year.
#5: No one has ever offered me drugs, a fact that I’m a little bummed about.
#6: I both love and hate politics at the same time. I’m one of those very rare free-thinking independents, which seems to be universally hated by both red and blue sides in the States.
#7: My best friend is a ninja. I’d introduce you, but he just disappeared.
#8: I haven’t published much because I’m a perfectionist. The idea that a long piece of fiction I wrote is sent out in book form–irretrievable and unchangeable–and has mistakes in it scares the shit out of me.
#9: I went to an experimental High School for nerds. Sometimes it shows.
#10: I have an extremely detailed Plan Z, but I’ve prepared none of it because I’m the King of Procrastination. Shocking, I know.
There you have it folks. I don’t know how surprising those little tidbits are, but they’re all true. If you have any questions about me, just ask. I’m fairly introverted and shy in real life, but on the internet I love meeting new people and discussing ideas. So post a reply here, follow me on twitter, put me in your G+ circles, like my author page on FB, and let’s get to know each other.
